I bought an XS N. rajah and looked forward to growing this particular species, which is one that I have always wanted to grow. The plant I received was a cute little plant that was actually a little bigger than I had expected and was the size I had started out Nepenthes before. I kept the plant indoors under bright fluorescent light as it was too hot for it outside. The plant, however, grew painfully slow and the leaves on the plant lost that glossy green color I associate with Nepenthes. I repotted the plant into a little larger pot into my soil mixture that I use for Nepenthes. I put the pot into an open bowl with a bottom layer of sphagnum moss that I kept moist. I babied the plant and checked on it usually once or twice a day (morning and/or evening). I also misted to keep the humidity high. It did manage to grow a few leaves over a four month period, but the last leaves were stunted with black streaks on them. The plant then suddenly turned black and died despite my best efforts. When I repotted the plant the first time, I didn't see much of a root system, and, when I removed it from its pot the last time to try something different before I lost it, I did not see an actively growing root system. The plant had been started from a cutting, and I suspect the cutting just didn't take off as it should. I tried to grow this plant as I have done before with Nepenthes cuttings. Perhaps this species is one of the few Nepenthes species that is actually difficult to grow.
